Hot Fudge Sauce
Not even the best ice cream shoppe offers a hot fudge sauce as good as this luscious creation that you can easily make at home.
2 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate*
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
⅓ cup boiling water
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
Equipment: Natural Gas cooktop
Place the butter and chocolate in a small saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until melted. Slowly add the boiling water, stirring until well blended. Add the sugar and corn syrup, increase the heat to medium, and bring to a boil. Simmer for 5 minutes for a thinner sauce or 8 minutes for a thicker sauce that will harden when poured over ice cream. Remove from the heat, stir in the vanilla, and use immediately.
Leftover sauce can be reheated over boiling water.
*You can substitute 6 tablespoons baking cocoa mixed into 2 tablespoons melted butter.
