Holiday Inn Express Gets Express Pool Heat
In December the Holiday Inn Express on Pensacola Beach fired up a new heating system for its outdoor pool. Out went the electric heat pumps that took as long as three days to warm the water after a cold snap and that failed to keep the pool warm enough when the air temperature fell below a certain level.
Now the hotel’s pool is heated with natural gas supplied by Gulf Breeze Natural Gas, and manager Beverly McCay is thrilled with the difference the new system has made.
“The longest it’s taken after a cold snap is only five hours,” Ms. McCay said, “and the new equipment is able to keep the pool at the steady 86 degrees that we need. Our guests are happy–and that makes us happy.”
Ms. McCay was also pleased with how the conversion from electric to natural gas was handled. “I loved working with the people at Gulf Breeze Natural Gas. They did exactly what they said they would do and when they promised to do it. They recognized that we were an open hotel and were very organized so that there would be no inconvenience to our guests. It was a very smooth installation process.”
“Another thing, when I was taking bids on the equipment, they recommended companies that they have worked with, and that was very helpful,” Ms. McCay said. “Then after the installation, the equipment provider briefed our hotel maintenance staff fully on best practices for maintenance and safe operation of the system.”
Another plus, Ms. McCay said, was the significant rebate which the hotel received on the equipment, and she looks forward to seeing what the energy savings will be with the switch from electric to natural gas.
“We also have a commitment to operating green and using natural gas fits with that commitment. We are a Holiday Inn Level 2 Green Hotel and are working toward Level 3 status. We recycle, we use recycled paper products, and our lighting is energy efficient.”
All 72 guest rooms and four penthouse suites at Holiday Inn Express overlook the Gulf of Mexico and feature private Gulf-front balconies. The facility is 100% nonsmoking and offers comfortable accommodations and spectacular scenery. The fitness center, business center, swimming pool, and even the breakfast-bar dining all face the beautiful waterfront. 
All rooms include free high-speed Internet and a 32-inch flat screen TV with HD channels and HBO. A refrigerator and work desk with an ergonomic chair are also provided. Guests may enjoy a complimentary breakfast buffet and a free newspaper that is delivered to the room each morning.
